Shaft Seal Types
One of the key components to a side entry mixer is the shaft seal. Whether you needs absolutely zero leakage (magnetic drive) or the security provided with a double mechanical cartridge seal or a low cost alternative like a stuffing box, we have a design to address the needs of our customers's applications and seal requirements.

types of stuffing boxes for side
entry mixers. The three most
common applications for them
are asphalt, pulp & paper and water treatment.
They are the least expensive option.

S61 Single Mechanical Cartridge Seal
The S61 single mechanical seal was specifically designed for side entry mixers. The design includes a roller thrust bearing which minimizes the forces on the seal faces, SiC/SiC seal faces, flush circuit and tank shut-off to allow for replacement without having to drain the tank.

API Lubrication System For D63 Double Mechanical Seals

D63 Double Mechanical Cartridge Seal
The D63 double mechanical seal was developed from the S61. It offers all of the same features such as a roller thrust bearing which minimizes the forces on the seal faces, SiC/SiC seal faces, flush circuit and tank shut-off to allow for replacement without having to drain the tank.
However, with the double mechanical seal there is an API lubrication system supplied to pressurize the internal seal cavity to prevent external leakage.
This is the most commonly purchased design today for BS&W tanks.
In addition, we have a special series design specifically for ASPHALT applications.

MXC Magnetic Drives
MXC magnetic drives for side entry mixers is the newest advancement in shaft seal technology.
The magnetic drive is a 'Zero Leakage' design as it utilizes an isolation chamber and a set of Neodymium magnets to rotate the shaft. There is no exit path for any in tank material to leak from.
This is ideal for processes that can not afford any leakage such as toxic chemicals or pharmaceutical applications.
